After staying local yesterday, I drove to Middleham Castle, some 30 miles from base.
Now I admit that I do seem to visit a lot of castles. But they are all different but one thing many of them have in common, is that they are built high up and command great views of the surrounding area. So I make no apologies for visiting two in one day. Next stop, Bolton Castle.
A very different experience to the average castle as it is set up as an a themed attraction. The floors are all in place and have some period decoration whereas in most castles the wooden floors have long since disappeared.
The Castle grounds are also well maintained and include a recently planted maze.
Once of the highlights of the visit though was the falconry demonstration.
The final unexpected highlight of the day, was the 20 mile drive across the spectacular Yorkshire Dales. Incredible countryside and complete isolation – no other cars.
