Here Comes Summer

OK, well not quite. Still this was the sunniest weekend of the year so far so I headed down to Hastings for the day.

Although it was sunny, it was no day for sitting on the beach – there was an icy wind blowing.

I noticed that the East Cliff funicular railway is due to re-open this
Continue reading Here Comes Summer

Fuller’s Fine Ale Club Tenth Anniversary

I had the privilege of being amongst a select group invited to Fuller’s brewery to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their Fine Ale Club.

The event included a guided tasting with their Master Brewer and we got to sample some great beers.

They are all 10/10 so I have ranked them in the order of my preference.

Running Wordpress on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server

I previously ran my Wordpress blog on an OS X client operating system. I’ve just bought a new Mac Mini running Snow Leopard Server to replace the old Mac Mini.

In theory it should be a lot more straight forward on the Server version of the operating system as everything you need is pre-installed. In practice,
Continue reading Running Wordpress on OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard Server

Cheddar Gorge and Dyrham Park

Last day so after saying goodbye to the lodge, I headed off to visit Cheddar Gorge.

First stop at the Gorge was Gough’s cave where there are lots of very impressive formations to view.

Further down he Gorge there is Cox Cave – a bit twee, but still worth it.

Dartmouth Castle and Brixham

Started with a trip to Dartmouth Castle – my SatNav decided I needed an unnecessary trip on the car ferry across the the River Dart.

The guide books warn that the road to Dartmouth Castle is narrow and that there is limited parking – they are not kidding – I don’t think I would like to
Continue reading Dartmouth Castle and Brixham

Lydford Gorge and Finch Foundry

For my mini-break, chose a lodge at the edge of Dartmoor, just a little north of Newton Abbot. As it was a very late booking, I got a great price on a huge three bedroom lodge on the side on a valley – it was very luxurious with high quality fixtures and fittings.

Devon Via Leeds and Longleat

I had a few days holiday remaining so I booked a long weekend in Devon. Not wishing to waste any of the valuable time off, and to minimise the car miles, I decided that I would start on the Thursday evening and stay in a hotel for the first night.

Last Day – Back to Reality, via Portchester

So after what seems like months, it was time to head home and say goodbye to Crantock Beach.

The location couldn’t be better – it was great to be able to walk down to the beach – I’ll definitely be making a return visit.

So I headed off a 6am and the first stop was breakfast at
Continue reading Last Day – Back to Reality, via Portchester

Around St.Agnes

Last day, and guess what – it’s sunny again!

I have tried to limit the amount of driving I do this holiday and this day is no exception – just a short trip along the coast to Trevaunance Cove.

With good weather, I don’t want to waste any more time than necessary driving so I headed for nearby Carnewas for Bedruthan Steps.

With tide right out it was the ideal time to walk along the beach at Carnewas and see each of the steps.
