On my way up to the Lakes, I decided to pay a visit to Emley.
At least as far back as my 11 Great Grandfather in 1576 and up until the late eighteenth century my family lived in this village.

Another one for the category – why didn’t I do this before! I started off at Birling Gap where you reach the beach via a staircase. I walked along the beach beneath the shear white chalk cliffs along the coast towards Beachy Head. You may have seen the recent TV adverts from the Welsh Assembly, ‘Holidays Unpackaged’, well I’ve just returned from a holiday and Wales, so how do they compare to reality. Well I’ve outdone myself this time. I have found many outstanding holiday cottages over the years but none in such a spectacular location. Last day of the holiday – time for just one more excursion – the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct I’d seen it featured on a TV show earlier in the year and as it was close to the route home I added it to my itinery. Recently it was added to the list of World Heritage Sites. Last full day in Wales and it end it ended with a spectacular sunset. But the day started with heavy rain so it was destined to be a bit of a mixed bag. Paid a return visit to Conwy today. The town has a lot of charm and contains one of the best castles in Wales – there are some very high towers that command stunning views. |
