Drove to Fowey and then took the passenger ferry across to visit Polruan for the first time. I then climbed the very steep streets to reach the top of the town and the start of the coastal path. As I have said before – St Ives can be a very unpleasant place, overcrowded and crammed with cars. After the success of my out of season visit in October 2008, I thought I’d give Spring a go. After a night of torrential rain , the day turned out unexpectedly nice. After the long drive to Cornwall yesterday, I did not want to spend too much time on the road today – I decided to revisit the Lost Gardens of Heligan. Today didn’t quite work out as planned. I had scheduled a number of stops beginning with a walk around Keyhaven Marsh. When I arrived at Keyhaven I imediately saw the signs for the ferry to Hurst Castle and after a quick google on my iPhone I decided that it would be worth a visit. The castle is located a mile and half out in the Solent at the end of Keyhaven Spit – it is midway between the mainland and the Isle of Wight. |
