Although it was sunny, it was no day for sitting on the beach – there was an icy wind blowing.

I noticed that the East Cliff funicular railway is due to re-open this month after being closed for a long while – I’ll have to make a return visit as I don’t think I have ever been up in it.

Sadly, the pier remains closed and in the ownership of a disinterested offshore company. Hopefully it won’t suffer the same fate as the West Pier in Brighton.

After visiting Hastings I made a brief stop in Battle.

A pretty village, steeped in history, there is a walk that takes you around the battlefield and to Battle Abbey.

A nice sunny sunday so a trip to the coast was in order.

Hastings has go so much more character than the neighbouring Brighton – It’s just a little bit tatty in places.

As well as the Beach, the Old Town harbour, has numerous shops selling very fresh fish – lovely.  The castle is expensive at £3.75, but you do get excellent views.
